Biggs Picture Jasper, from near Biggs Junction, Sherman County, Northern Oregon. A nice little example of the fine quality of the “porcelain” picture jasper from this legendary, long dug out locality. The jasper was discovered during the construction of I-84 during 1964. This jasper strike really created a gold rush mentality among lapidaries and rockhounds of that time. It's fantastical rolling patterns look like topographical landscapes, being revealed through the power of nature's grand scheme. Now historical, the material is much sought after by today's collectors. This nice little windowed piece is representative of the unique design of this classic Oregon collectible.
