Aurichalcite and Hemimorphite from the 79 Mine, Dripping Springs Mountains, Gila County, Arizona. This is a lovely sample from the famous 79 Mine featuring lusterous clear hemimorphite and lots of fibers of teal colored aurichalcite. The 79 Mine was discovered in 1879 and worked as an underground lead-zinc-copper-silver-gold mine with other metals also present. It was mined in the 1990's for specimens, and this piece is a very fine example. We don't see much material from the 79 Mine on the mineral market today as the locality has been closed and out of production for years. This was an old collection piece but no provenance was conveyed with it so it only bears a catalog number. None-the-less, you will certainly appreciate this fine piece as soon as you lay eyes on it, and I think you will recognize the beauty and the quality represented from this desirable locality.
